Interview with Barbara Bogoje, Executive Director
1. Can you tell us a little about your background and what inspired you to work in senior living?
I worked in assisted living for 15 years before I went to school to get my nursing license. I came to Cottages at Hemet about 6 years ago. I started working as a nurse until I was promoted to executive director. The reason I got into senior living I felt connected to the residents and I felt like I was giving back
2. What do you love most about working with residents?
I have established relationships and I see my residents as members of my own family.
3. Can you share a favorite memory or moment you’ve had with a resident that stands out to you?
I had a resident in hospice that was declining and was very scared. I had grown very close to him and wanted to give him some comfort, help ease his mind, and honor him. I asked him if I could help wash his feet.
4. What are some of the ways your team supports families of residents?
My team is very attentive to residents and acknowledges the family’s needs as well. We feel as if our community is an extension of the family members’ home.
5. How do you keep your team motivated and inspired in such a meaningful — but often challenging — line of work?
I let my team know how much I appreciate and care about them. They do so much for the residents.
6. What makes your community unique compared to others in the area?
Our staff is exceptional! We want everyone to feel welcome and right at home.
